How To Write A Good First Screenplay (For Film / Series)

Hey guys, sorry for absence! :) I'm back, so let's discuss screenwriting for today :)

And to cheer you up - I'm in the process of finishing my Fan Fiction book (Naruto / Naruto Shippuden Fandom ;) ) and I will present it to you shortly.

Now about Screenwriting rules :)

I will alert you from the very beginning - screenwriting is a TOUGH thing to do, but, along with that, it is a whole different experience and really fun thing ;) So I encourage you with my whole heart to try it out ^_^ But keep in mind, your first script will not be the perfect one you would want it to be, however, it will be your first step towards definite success, if you accept its rules and remember your previous mistakes. :)

So, I'm giving you two links to check out, in order to get a grasp of basic and ESSENTIAL screenwriting rules, without which your screenplay will NOT be a proper screenplay, and therefore, filmmakers will not read it (most likely, because filmmakers, so far as I've observed, are very picky and annoyed people who easily get irritated xD Be aware of them, and treat them nicely because in their opinion screenwriter isn't the main player in filmmaking (however, in reality, we screenwriters ARE actually one of the mainest ;) )

1) This is a link of basic screenplay outline. Without this outline, your script is no script.
Pay attention to every detail.

2) This is the link where basic and essential rules are shown to write a good screenplay :) Keep them in mind when starting your first script!

But here I would like to add that you actually CAN make some of your tiny improvements to your script as you wish, not really sticking to all of these rules strictly, but still try to obey them while you're a starter :)

3) And then, here's the good site for writing screenplays. It is a software that helps you write scripts without bothering with structure too much - you just click the right button and it structures the script for you: https://writerduet.com/ And you can partner up with other screenwriters as well! :D

4) When you write your script, be ready to swallow ANY kind of critics rushing towards you! It is essential for a screenwriter to be friendly with critics! And you must also consider the ideas of filmmakers (unless you're the director yourself) and obey to their demands. It is they who give you money. If they're satisfied, you get more money. :3 So better for you.

5) And finally, here's the site where you can publish your unproduced scripts for free (make sure to copyright them), and get others review it! :) http://www.simplyscripts.com/ And maybe some filmmakers will even spot you and offer you work ;)

Good luck! ^_^ Write down any questions in comments!

  1. Hi, Tamuna! How are you doing?

Oh, there's an online masterclass on screenwriting taught by Aaron Sorkin who did West Wing. You might be interested in that! :)

Also, I was inspired by you to kind of "restart" my blog and now I upload frequently with short articles and news: www.writingsass.blogspot.com

    Keep working hard!
